ABOUT FOREST THE CANOE

Forest The Canoe has been in operation since 2020. Creating connections between people, place, and the natural world. Guided nature tours and camping trips for your everyday outdoor enthusiast in Northern Ontario, operated out of our base camp and rental supplies location in Goulais River, Ontario.

CONTRACT DATES

Start Date: Monday June 12, 2023 - Friday September 1, 2023 (approximate)

35 hours/week for 12 weeks 

Availability of weekdays and weekends 

 

COMPENSATION

$18.00/hour 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION 

Forest The Canoe Assistant Guide

  1. Work with a team of guides to safely manage guests experience at Forest The Canoe basecamp and other locations 

  2. Assist with Canoe Tours, Hiking Tours, True North Adventure Bus full day and half day adventures. 

  3. Provide risk assessment and risk management before and during all trips 

  4. Write and execute all Trip/Tour related documentation

  5. Ensure registration forms, waivers and rental agreements are completed and collect and organize data for tours

  6. Perform provided interpretation as provided by the Employer to enrich guests experience 

  7.  Act as a good steward for the natural world, including following sustainability practices and Leave No Trace principles. 

  8. Be aware of all Evacuation Plans and Trip Plans should an emergency arise. 

  9.  Participate in documenting the trips for participants with your cell phone so that photos may later be provided to participants. 

  10. Rental supply outfitting of canoes and kayaks at Forest The Canoe basecamp. 

  11. Follow sanitation, social proximity and disease legal frameworks and guidelines for the current pandemic 

  12.  Perform other duties as assigned or identified.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Youth under 30 as described in Canada Summer Jobs Program

  2. Driver’s License (Full G Licence preferred) 

  3. Post Secondary student or graduate in relevant field (School of Natural Environment & Outdoor Studies)

  4. Current First Aid/CPR 

  5. Experience canoeing and Paddle Canada/ORCKA certifications an asset 

  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team 

  7. Excellent risk management skills and the ability to think quickly in difficult situations
