Storm & Stone: Maple Island Traders
Guided Interpretive Kayak Tour: 4 hours
Service Description
Echoes of Maple Island Lake Superior is more than just a lake—it’s a force of nature, a keeper of stories, and a place where history lingers on the waves. This guided small-group kayak experience is designed adults looking to immerse themselves in the beauty and mystery of the Inland Sea. With the wind at your back and the rhythm of your paddle cutting through the water, you’ll explore the crystal-clear depths and rugged, rocky shoreline of the greatest Great Lake. If conditions allow, your journey will take you to Maple Island, a remote and storied place where a group of fur traders once met an untimely fate when their canoe crashed against the unforgiving shoreline. What happened next is a tale best told on the water, where the echoes of history still seem to drift on the waves. At a scenic shoreline stop, take a break to enjoy a shoreside snack before continuing your paddle. Afterward, spend the rest of your time exploring at your own pace or paddling alongside your guide. “We can’t always ask for good weather, but we can always ask for good judgment.” Tour Details: Suitable for small groups of adults (paddling experience preferred). If conditions permit, tours will launch from Forest The Canoe’s basecamp in Goulais River. Alternate locations, including Goulais Bay or other inland lakes and rivers in the Goulais River/Sault Ste. Marie area, are available upon request (additional costs may apply). Pricing: $240 + tax for 2 people $100 for each additional person (up to 4 people total) Includes: ✔ Shoreside Snack ✔ Interpretive Guide ✔ Paddling Gear ✔ Kayak Rental Deposit: $25 non-refundable deposit required. Waiver to be signed prior to departure.
